Retirement Planning for Charlotte Individuals and Families

Retirement changes the question you have been asking. For years the goal was to save as much as you could. Now it is how to turn those savings into income you can rely on, income that keeps up with rising costs and lasts through a long retirement. That deserves a written plan you can see and adjust over time.

We work with Charlotte professionals, relocating executives, and retirees to bring the pieces together: when to draw from each account, when to claim Social Security, how to manage taxes year to year, and how the plan should respond as life changes. Every recommendation we make is given in your best interest.

Our Charlotte Retirement Planning Services

Retirement planning comes together when the pieces are managed as one plan rather than one decision at a time. These are the areas we focus on for Charlotte individuals and families.

Retirement Income Planning

We turn your accounts into dependable income, mapping which to draw from and when so your money lasts and your taxes stay manageable.

Social Security Timing

We model claiming ages against your other income so you can decide when to file with the full picture, not a rule of thumb.

Tax-Aware Withdrawals and Roth Conversions

North Carolina's flat tax rate shapes when conversions make sense. We look at converting in the right years and sequencing withdrawals to smooth taxes.

401(k) and IRA Rollovers

Many Charlotte residents arrive with plans from prior employers and states. We help you consolidate and decide what to do with each account.

Investment Management

We manage a portfolio matched to your income needs and risk tolerance, and adjust it as you move from saving into spending.

Estate and Legacy Coordination

We coordinate beneficiaries and account titling with your attorney so your plan passes on the way you intend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does North Carolina tax Social Security or my retirement income?

North Carolina does not tax Social Security benefits. It applies a single flat income tax rate to other retirement income such as 401(k), IRA, and pension withdrawals (North Carolina Department of Revenue). The flat rate is one reason the timing of Roth conversions is worth planning.

How much can I contribute to my retirement accounts in 2026?

For 2026 the 401(k) elective deferral limit is $24,500, with an $8,000 catch-up at age 50 and over and a higher $11,250 catch-up for ages 60 to 63. The IRA limit is $7,500, with a $1,100 catch-up at 50 and over (IRS).

When should I claim Social Security?

Full retirement age is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later (Social Security Administration). Filing earlier reduces your benefit and waiting increases it, so the right choice depends on your other income, your health, and your spouse. We model the options with you.

I moved to Charlotte with accounts from another state. Can you help?

Yes. Many of our clients arrive with 401(k)s and equity compensation from prior employers and states. We help you consolidate those accounts and fold them into one coordinated retirement plan.

Where is your Charlotte office?

Our office is at 2015 Ayrsley Town Boulevard in Charlotte, and we meet clients in person or by video, whichever you prefer.
